What Is Nearsightedness?
Shortsightedness is when the eyes focus incorrectly, making far objects appear blurry.
A myopic individual sees blurred targets in the distance, but clearly when trying to read or see something that is near. If you see an undiagnosed near sightedperson, you will notice them squinting. The Greek words for shut and eye form the root for the term myopia, which is the technical term for near sightedness.
Jaeger charts are used to assess a woman’s near vision. A Snellen chart will be better for assessing somebody’s distant vision. A myopic individual will not be able to see the image from a Snellen chart with great clarity and so the letters looked fuzzy and unfocussed.
It occurs when the physical length of the eye is greater than the optical length. So, you see, Nearsightedness often develops in the rapidly growing school-aged child or teenager, and progresses during the growth years, requiring frequent changes in glasses or contact lenses. It usually stops progressing as growth is completed in the early twenties.
So whilst young people are the most likely to get Nearsightedness. It happens in equal numbers between boys and girls. If there is family history, then somepeople are most likely to have it.
If you are myopic, then you are likely to need to the local opticians and see whether I could get discount glasses online. Just go to an actual optician for the prescription and request a copy of the prescriptions.
