Clash of the Titans

Full Tilt Poker and Poker Stars are at it again, this time trying to set a new world record by having the largest online poker tournament ever to date. The goal is to get more than 35,000 players to play in a single cash casino tournament. Full Tilt held an open tournament for 5 dollars with a guaranteed prize of at least 500k, and a smaller tournament with a one dollar buy in with a prize pool of 100k USD. But Poker Stars was not to be bested just yet. They too were holding satellites giving away 1000 tickets to their tournament to the top 1000 finishers hoping to get enough players online to break the record. The online poker results aren’t in yet, but you can bet that both tournaments are going to be huge despite any record breaking. Full Tilt has already secured some of the poker world’s top names to be a part of their tourney such as Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson, and the 2009 WSOP final table candidate poker “brat” Phil Ivey. It will be interesting to see how they fare against the online community with such a huge player pool, but in any event, one for the record books or not, these tournaments are sure to be a hit with the recreational players and the daily grinders alike. Stay tuned next week and we’ll bring to you the conclusion on who broke what record and how they did it.
